History

NorthRiver Yacht Club was envisioned and built by Mr. Jack Warner, legendary art collector, philanthropist and businessman in 1977-78.

NorthRiver's championship golf course was originally designed by legendary golfer, Gary Player in 1978 then redesigned by Bob Cupp, well-known and admired golf course architect, in 1997 and again in 2015.  The golf course is known across the Southeast for being a great golf course for play-ability and course conditions. In addition to golf, members and their invited guests enjoy an active lifestyle with a full fitness center, two pools, 97-wet slip boat marina on Lake Tuscaloosa, 11 professionally maintained and operated tennis courts, clinics and active junior programs in golf and tennis, plus a very full social calendar of events with two clubhouses to enjoy.

Honours Golf began managing NorthRiver in September of 2012 and in November 2015, Honours Golf was purchased by Troon, the largest club management company in the world. Immediately, NorthRiver Yacht Club became part of Troon’s elite brand of private clubs known as Troon Privé.  As a benefit of being one of 200+ private clubs in the Troon Privé Collection, Full Resident golf members of NRYC earned the benefit of being able to play at a special Privé rate at those clubs across the world.  Troon became the official owner of NorthRiver Yacht Club and all that the club offers on March 31, 2017.

NorthRiver’s rich history abounds from every building and room throughout the Club.  We invite you to learn more about private club membership at NorthRiver. For more information, please contact the Membership Office, 205-343-4565.
